Playtime pays off as Super Duper family festival boosts visitors across Manchester city centre

Feb 26, 2025

Manchester’s first ever Super Duper Family Festival proved a huge hit with families earlier this week, with tens of thousands of visitors heading into the city to enjoy four days of free family fun.

Running from Saturday 15th – Tuesday 18th February 2025, Manchester city centre was transformed into a giant playground of fun and creativity to kick off the February half term week.

Organised by the Manchester Accommodation BID on behalf of the city’s hoteliers, in partnership with Manchester City Centre Business Improvement District, Manchester City Council and Marketing Manchester, six unique play zones were created in six iconic city centre locations.

These included The Garden in Exchange Square featuring a giant hedge maze and The Big Green Leaf Eco School at Manchester Arndale, The Carnival in St Ann’s Square with a Hall of Mirrors and Victorian Carousel and The Playground in collaboration with BBC’s Waterloo Road on New Cathedral Street.  Families also enjoyed a high-energy family rave with CBeebies at Aviva Studios (the home of Factory International), arcade fun under Europe’s largest digital ceiling at Printworks and a Sports Hall at Great Northern Warehouse.

Other attractions and venues across the city including the People’s History Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry and Castlefield Viaduct also hosted events during the festivities, while numerous restaurants and hotels provided exclusive offers for city-goers.

Kumar Mishra, Chairman of Manchester Accommodation BID, commented: “We’re delighted with the response to the city’s first-ever Super Duper Family Festival, which successfully showcased Manchester as the ultimate Half Term destination. By transforming the city into a vibrant, family-friendly playground, we attracted thousands of visitors to experience Manchester in a free, fresh, and engaging way. This event not only boosted footfall but also reinforced Manchester’s reputation as the perfect place for families to visit and stay during the school holidays.”
